the waste from coal-fired power plants,
contains contaminants like mercury, cadmium,
arsenic and chromium, which are associated
with serious health effects. Often collected
in coal ash ponds adjacent to natural waterways,
this industrial waste is subject to new EPA
regulations, along with increased pressure to
close or relocate many of the collection ponds.

Wastewater from mining and aggregate operations
must be properly managed to prevent any water

acidic, requiring that lime, limestone, or
